Tax Classification

Overseas FX profits are classified as "miscellaneous income" under comprehensive taxation in Japan (not the flat 20.315% for domestic FX).

Tax Rates (progressive)

Up to ¥1.95M: 5% income tax + 10% resident tax = 15%

¥1.95M-3.3M: 10% + 10% = 20%

¥3.3M-6.95M: 20% + 10% = 30%

¥6.95M-9M: 23% + 10% = 33%

¥9M-18M: 33% + 10% = 43%

Filing Requirements

Employees: Required when annual FX profit exceeds ¥200,000

Self-employed: Required from ¥1 profit

Deductible Expenses

VPS costs, EA purchases, trading books, seminar fees, internet (proportional), computer depreciation

Filing Period: February 16 - March 15 (e-Tax available)
